Air-Fryer Loaded Baked Potato Chicken Strips
Chicken strips coated in seasoned potato flakes mixed with crisp bacon bits, parmesan, and chives — every flavour of a loaded baked potato applied to the chicken-strip template. Twelve minutes in the air fryer, served with sour cream for dipping.
The "loaded baked potato" flavour profile — sour cream, bacon, cheddar, chives — has spread across American food in the last decade like a virus. It's appeared in chips, pretzels, dips, mashed potatoes, and now, here, applied to a chicken strip. The coating is what carries the flavour: dehydrated potato flakes (the kind you'd use for instant mashed potatoes) mixed with finely crumbled cooked bacon, grated parmesan, chopped chives, and salt. Press it onto egg-dipped chicken strips, air-fry, and the result is a chicken strip that tastes specifically of a loaded baked potato. Improbable but excellent.
The trick is the potato flakes. They give the coating a unique texture — coarser than panko, lighter than regular breadcrumbs, with a faint potato sweetness that you don't get from any other breading. The bacon mixed in is what gets you the smoky-savoury note that defines the loaded-baked-potato flavour family. Real parmesan, not the green can stuff.
The photo shows them plated on a deep teal plate with chopped chives scattered over the top, a side salad of mixed greens and heirloom tomato visible at the edge of the frame, and a small ramekin of sour cream just out of view. This is one of those "my-kids-will-eat-this-AND-it-has-a-vegetable-on-the-plate" dinners that has saved many a Wednesday evening.
